Primary Nose Surgery: An extremely gratifying experience

One gets attractive especially when all parts of the face are in harmony. Nasal Surgery (Rhinoplasty) or "nose job" involves altering the nose bone and cartilage for enhancement. Patients seek and consult about primary nose surgery for beautification purposes. Rhinoplasty is the answer to complains like excessively large, crooked, or an unwanted hump or deformity.

Primary nose surgery is a delicate operation. It requires cautious planning and meticulous technique. Both patient and surgeon expect extremely gratifying result.

Know that primary nose surgery is partly art and science. Art involves listening to the patient's desires for improvement where the surgeon interconnects these with his standards and skill to obtain a promising result. The goal is to create an attractive nose, balanced with the face that is natural-looking. The science of primary nose surgery involves creating a nose that will withstand the test of time and maintain its structural integrity and function for respiration.

During consultation, computer imaging enhances the patient's understanding and set realistic goals. With this, the surgeon is able to show how they will look like after the primary nose surgery.

In planning your primary nose surgery, it is important to take into consideration the need for any functional surgery to correct blocked breathing passages in the nose such as a deviated nasal septum, hypertrophy of the nasal turbinates, or inward motion of nasal sidewalls with respiration known as nasal valve collapse. If such exists, this portion of the primary nose surgery may be covered by your insurance.

In many cases the primary nose surgery can be performed without external incisions. You may be a candidate for "Open Rhinoplasty” when it requires advanced tip sculpting, or reconstruction of the middle third of the nose. This involves making a short incision along the bottom part of the nose which allows direct visualization of the nasal components. This open incision generally leaves a barely visible scar to the patient. Experts on primary nose surgery are comfortable with "open" or "endonasal" approach, and will opt the best that suits your nose.

Primary nose surgery takes only about one to three hours on an outpatient basis. Anesthesia used for the surgery may either be general or thru IV sedation, depending on patient's preference and length of the procedure.

After the procedure, your nose will be covered with a compact external splint to hold the nasal bones in place for a week as protection. All patients receive medication for minimal pain, also, a brief course of antibiotics and medication to reduce swelling. Stuffy breathing is experienced during the first night, but will be relieved after the removal of small gauze from the nostrils during the primary nose surgery check-up.

Most prefer taking a week of vacation following surgery though you may resume working after 2-3 days. A desirable outcome is visible within a week. After-effects of primary nose surgery may include swelling and occasional bruising, basically resolved over the first month. Notice subtle changes for up to 3 months and rarely up to one year.
